Fossil Hunting

The Isle of Wight is known as Dinosaur Island, and for good reason! It was named the UK's Dinosaur Capital, and, as one of the richest areas for dinosaur discovery in Europe, it's not hard to find something on a local beach that's millions of years old. Guided Fossil-Hunting tours are available from Island Gems in Godshill, just inland from Ventnor, and there are several museums across the island showcasing their finds. Dinosaur footprints are visible at low tide at Compton Bay and Brooke Beach, both key fossil-hunting spots in the south of the Island.
